Reefseeker: Fish. Dive. Explore. Last updated 25 October 2026.

The short version

Reefseeker has no ads and we do not sell your information. You sign in with your email address so we can keep the app and its data to registered testers. Sharing your results with other anglers is off until you switch it on, and you can switch it off at any time.

Your account

To sign in we ask for your email address and send you a one-time code. We store your email address and a record of your sign-in sessions (a random token, when it was created and last used) so you stay signed in. We also count how much data an account downloads, to spot scraping and abuse. We do not link your account to the results you share, your location or your saved spots. The sign-in emails are sent through Resend. Ask us at hello@reefseeker.com.au and we will delete your account.

Stored only on your phone

Your saved spots, trips, catch log, settings and fishing sessions stay in your browser on your device. We never receive them. Clearing your browser data removes them.

If you choose "Share my results anonymously"

When you tap Caught one, Bites or Nothing yet while fishing with sharing on, the app sends only:

It does not send your exact spot, name, email, device ID or any account. We do not store your IP address; it is used briefly only to limit abuse (a daily count per connection) and is not kept with your results. Results are shown to other anglers only as an area-level summary, and only once at least two results exist for a cell. We keep results for up to about 13 months. Because results are anonymous, we cannot find or delete an individual entry once sent. Turn sharing off on the live fishing screen to stop sending.

Location

If you allow it, your phone's location is used on your device to find nearby spots and conditions. Where we fetch weather, tide, sea temperature or community results for your area, the request includes an approximate position (a few kilometres) so we can return local data.

Photo species ID

If you press "Identify the fish from this photo" in the catch form, that one photo is resized, sent through our server to an AI service (Anthropic) to name the fish, and the answer is sent back. We do not keep the photo or the answer, and nothing is sent unless you press the button. The rough place of the mark and the species listed for it are sent with the photo to improve the answer. The photo you save in your catch log stays on your device.

Services we use

The app and its small database run on Cloudflare. Weather and sea data come from Open-Meteo and similar public sources, and maps from OpenStreetMap contributors. Those services receive the usual technical details of a web request (such as IP address) under their own policies.

Fishing reports

Our daily reports are written by us from facts in publicly available fishing reports (which species, roughly where, and how they are biting), each with a link back to the original. See ReefseekerBot.

Safety and accuracy

Reefseeker is a guide, not an authority. Zoning, bag limits and weather change, so always check official sources before you fish or dive.

Changes and exclusions

This policy may change as the app grows; the date above shows the latest version. If you run a website we read and want it excluded, block ReefseekerBot in your robots.txt.
